Millwall are still searching for their first away league win of the season after Brentford scored three late goals to secure a dramatic 3-2 victory on Saturday afternoon at Griffin Park.

The Lions raced into a 2-0 lead, thanks to goals from Tom Bradshaw and Jed Wallace before three goals in the last 10 minutes secured three points for the hosts.

Josh Dasilva, Bryan Mbeumo and Ollie Watkins all on target for the Bees in only their second league win at home this season.

Brentford pressure

Brentford enjoyed the better of the early chances but couldn’t break the deadlock. With just 12 minutes gone, Nikos Karelis hit the post for the hosts after a left footed shot from the left of the Millwall goal which rebounded off the right hand-side goal post.

The Bee’s had another opportunity to take a well-deserved lead just before the 25-minute mark when Shaun Hutchinson was deemed to have bundled Brentford’s Henrik Dalsgaard to the deck by referee Stuart Attwell.

Watkins took the penalty and fired left, but Millwall keeper Bartosz Bialkowski superbly saved the shot to keep the game goalless.

Bialkowski saved the Lions again when he dived to his right to keep out Dalsgaard’s stinging shot just after the half-hour mark.

Against The Run Of Play

Deep into first-half stoppage time, the Lions took the lead when David Raya parried Jayson Molumby’s shot straight into the path of Bradshaw who was left with the simple job of prodding the ball home.

With 55 minutes on the clock, Hutchinson was dragged down in the box by Watkins with Attwell awarding a penalty to the Lions. Wallace stepped up and thumped the ball into the bottom left corner to give the Lions a 2-0 lead.

Brentford’s Fightback

With just six minutes left, Dasilva gave the Bee’s a lifeline when he found the bottom left corner from just outside the Lions penalty box. Just two minutes later, the hosts were level thanks to Mbeumo’s deflected effort finding the top left corner.

Four minutes into stoppage time, Brentford scored the winner after the Lions failed to clear their lines with Watkins eventually smashing the ball home after Mbeumo laid the ball back to him.

Barrett’s Frustration

Millwall caretaker manager Adam Barrett was left feeling frustrated having seen his side let slip a 2-0 lead away from home in the final 10 minutes.

“I thought the work-rate from the lads was tremendous, but our game management at the end there has to be much better,” Barrett told the club’s official site. “It was frustrating because they had their tails up the minute, we let them back into the game.

“From a throw-in and then one pass, they get a shot on goal for the first one; the second goal gets a wicked deflection, and we really have to be seeing games out better from great positions away from home.”

Next Up

The Lions now sit 17th in the Championship league table, five points above the relegation zone and face another stern test this Tuesday when they face a Cardiff City side looking to get back into the Premier League at the first time of asking.
