Michael McKinson is set to defend his WBC International Silver Welterweight belt against Birmingham-born Ryan Kelly at the Brentwood Centre

The 24-year-old McKinson, nicknamed ‘The Problem’ will step through the ropes on the 9th March on a card promoted by MTK Global.

Main Event

The unbeaten McKinson (15-0) defended the title last time out at York Hall with a points victory against Londoner Sammy McNess (10-2) at York Hall and will be facing another stern test in Kelly (13-1).

Kelly’s sole loss came back in 2017 against Gloucestershire-based Adam Harper (9-1) when he challenged for the Midlands Area Super Welterweight title, losing a tight contest 95-97 on points.

Victory for McKinson would catapult him into contention for the British title, currently held by Johnny Garton after his Fight of the Year contender against Gary Corcoran in Brentwood last year.

You can watch the highlights of Corcoran v Garton on BT Sport’s Boxing Channel.

Exciting Undercard

Also on the card, Mikey Sakyi (7-2) will defend his Southern Area Super Lightweight title against Idris Hill (8-2-2).

Sakyi, who won the title back in June against Siar Ozgul (14-2), will be keen to go back on a winning streak after his challenging beginning which saw him losing twice in 12 months.

Plenty of young prospects are also set to be on the card including undefeated pair Shaquille Day (10-0) and DP Carr (10-0) with super-welterweight Matt McCarthy (18-2) returning after his loss to Billy Bird in March last year.

MTK Global president Bob Yalen is excited about what another evening in Brentwood can produce. Speaking to MTK’s website, Yalen said: “We’re relishing the chance to go and put on yet another fantastic show at the Brentwood Centre, which has become one of the headquarters of the small-hall boxing scene.

“There have already been some absolute classics on MTK Global shows in Brentwood with several titles on the line and we’re looking to step it up with each and every show in terms of the quality of the fights, the production and the event in general.

“In addition to true 50-50s at the top of our cards, we’re looking to provide a stage for some of the sport’s brightest prospects – both domestically and internationally – to send rivals and fans alike early statements.

“The last few shows we’ve put on at the venue have sold out and we’d like to take this opportunity to thank the fans for their continued support. Without them, events like this simply wouldn’t happen.”

The event will be streamed live on the iFL YouTube page and tickets are available on the following link: http://mtkglobalstore.com/tickets/
