Sam Tomlinson takes a look at the team news for the forthcoming International Series…

Calvin Johnson may return to action this weekend against the Atlanta Falcons for the first time since week 5.

Johnson, nicknamed Megatron for his on-field capabilities, travelled to London earlier this week with the Detroit Lions but was originally doubtful to feature in the match-up.

Fans attending the International Series fixture, many of whom will be present specifically to see him play, will welcome the news that they may see the All-Pro receiver in action.

After light practice on Wednesday, he took part in further drills on Thursday. While talking to ESPN he said: “We’re doing everything from straight-forward running to moving laterally as well. Things are going good. We’re moving in a positive direction.”

For one fan that will be in attendance Sunday it was clear that if he does not suit up it would be devastating: “To see Megatron play at Wembley is probably a once in a lifetime opportunity…I would be gutted if I don’t see him make at least one catch.”

The former Georgia Tech product has a rare combination of size and speed making him one of the most dominant players in football. He currently holds the NFL record for most yards receiving in a single season, breaking Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice’s previous 17-year-long record.

If he does not play he will more than likely play some part in the event in attempt to further establish the NFL brand within Europe.
