The Daggers find themselves in a dire run of form, having only picked up five points from their last seven matches in the National League, with their 3-0 victory away against struggling Maidstone United all but a distant memory. Last time out, the East London side were beaten 2-0 by high-flying Gateshead, but Nunn feels that the final score was harsh on his side:

“Looking back to our last match here against Gateshead, I thought first half we were very unlucky.

Missed Opportunities

“If you weigh up the amount of chances that we had, on another day we could have been two or three goals ahead if we take our chances.”

Gateshead took the lead after Peter Taylor’s side had dominated the opening exchanges, as Mike Williamson was brought down in the area after a tussle with Daggers defender, Manny Onariase. Steven Rigg converted from the spot for his first league goal since October, with 42 minutes on the clock as the home.

Questionable Decisions

“We have watched the penalty back and I think it was very soft,” said Nunn “However, saying that, we could still have done a few things to prevent conceding the penalty.”

“I think we were hard done by to come in at 1-nil down, at the worst case it should have been 0-0 at half time because we did have so many chances,” Nunn added. Gateshead started the second half in the ascendancy, and Rigg grabbed his second as the Daggers captain admitted that the game slipped away from his side:

“In the second half, the game just seemed to pass us by. We’ve looked at their second goal and there were a few things that could have been prevented. We didn’t really have any clear-cut chances apart from the penalty, which at that point would have been key to us getting back into the game. It was frustrating because we need all the points we can get.”

Goal-Drought

Goals have been hard to come by for Dagenham, having only scored a solitary goal in their last three games. However, the former Boreham Wood defender says that the goals will come:

“Over the last three games we haven’t been taking the chances when they have come our way. You have that in football sometimes, you can have a great game where you’re passing the ball around well and the ball won’t go in, or you can have none of the ball and you score with your only chance. So we’ve just got to ride it out and hopefully we can put it right on Saturday.

Back To Winning Ways?

Sutton currently sit in 6th place in the National League but are without a win in two matches, after defeats against Barrow and Barnet. Nunn sees this as an opportunity to get back to winning ways at the Chigwell Construction Stadium and give the fans something to cheer about:

“Saturday’s match is a chance to put this little run behind us and kick on. We’ve got to realise where we are in the league and it’s not a time for us to start digging each other out or moaning at people.

“We need to pull together until we’re safe and then we can start looking at where we need to improve and what we need to do to be up there next year.

“But for now, we all need to stick together and make sure we get ourselves out of any trouble that we could be in come the end of the season,” said the 29-year-old.
