Oktoberfest Comes To Canary Wharf

Lucas Ribeiro Dos Santos takes a trip to Canary Wharf’s homage to the Bavarian drinking festival

Beer, food, music, Bavarian clothing, friendly strangers saying “I love you”, and did I mention the beer? A lot of beer. These are just some of the things that Oktoberfest has to offer. Don’t have money to fly all the way to Germany for the annual Bavarian tradition of drinking beers? Don’t worry, London has its own Oktoberfest!

As I arrived at the festival, I was greeted with nothing less than authentic music and people smiling with beers in their hands. The festival managed to capture the tradition perfectly. Big beer mugs that will kill anyone’s thirst, succulent grilled Mettwurst sausage, and a clothing shop that sells traditional Bavarian items. There is a something for everyone.

I spoke to beer enthusiast Mills Tayler about his thoughts on the festival: “I’m in love with this place! It brings new culture to our city and brings people together. I’ve met so many people from all over the world. Everyone is here to have a good time and any place that has good music and good beer is a good time!”

After a few drinks, some dancing on top of the table and friendly conversations I will definitely be coming back next year. Drink responsibly.

Canary Wharf’s Oktoberfest is on until the 14th of October, at Millwall Park, Canary Wharf.
