Oliver Fisher is a professional golfer from Chingford, England. From a young age, Fisher was considered one of the best young prospects of his generation.

After winning the Faldo Series (Nick Faldo’s development programme for young golfers) in 2003, 2004 and 2005, he became the youngest player to take part in the Walker Cup – the amateur equivalent of the Ryder Cup.

Prodigious Talent

While still an amateur, the exciting prospect entered the European Tour’s Qualifying School, finishing fifth, and he subsequently became the youngest ever Briton to win a tour card and immediately turned pro once eligible.

In 2011, the 32-year-old won to date, his only professional event – the Czech Open. He won comfortably by two shots, and this was a sign of things to come.

Fisher is perhaps best known to golf fans for being the first golfer ever to shoot a sub-60 round at the Portugal Masters with a round of 59. The Brit wrote himself into the history books with an outstanding round consisting of one eagle, ten birdies and seven pars.

This was the first time a golfer had broken 60 on the European Tour, and the achievement has yet to be repeated.

Squandered Talent?

However, the 32-year-old’s career has not yet reached the heights that were expected when he burst onto the scene. Since his debut win in the Czech Open, Fisher has managed just a handful of top 10s on the European Tour, most recently at the British Masters in July of last year.

At his best, Fisher was driving with 65% accuracy with an average of 286 yards per shot off the tee. Whereas across 2020, while he was hitting his tee shots further, his accuracy declined to a mere 52%.

He is also down on greens in regulation percentage and stroke average since his debut season on the European Tour.

At 32, Fisher is by no means coming toward the end of his career, but time will tell whether he can rediscover the form that once made him one of the world’s best prospects.
