The O’s boss was widely expected win the award as his team had won all four of their league matches in September without conceding a single goal and scoring six.

This season has seen Orient’s best start to a campaign in it’s 141-year history with Wellens and his team currently perched at the top of the table, level on points with Stevenage, having played one game less.

Just The Start

Speaking to EFL.com after receiving the award Wellens said, “It’s a fantastic achievement to win it for two months in a row, but really it’s just a reflection of how hard all of the players and staff have worked to get to where we are”.

“The start to the season has been incredible, but that’s all it is, a start. We now need to keep going with that same hunger and desire that we have had so far and look to maintain this momentum”.

Back On The Up…

Wellens was appointed as Leyton Orient’s Head Coach in early March of this year, after a disappointing Christmas period that had seen The O’s drop out of the play-off positions and into a relegation scrap under their previous manager.

Orient quickly rallied under Wellens’ guidance, playing a brand of attacking, session-based football and eventually finished in 13th place.

After suffering a shock first home defeat at the hands of Newport County last weekend, Orient travel north to face Doncaster Rovers on Saturday afternoon with Wellens keen to prove that the Newport result was merely a bump in the road on their quest for promotion.
