Leyton Orient Women make the trip to face Cambridge United Women in the FA Women’s National League Cup Second Round at Mildenhall Town FC this Sunday.

This match against Cambridge was set to be played on October 14th but was interestingly called off due to a heavy down pour at the home sides’ ground.

The O’s go into this cup game as favourites as they sit fourth in the table with 11 points, having won three league games this season. However, their opponents Cambridge sit 11th in the table with only five points, having won only one game this season.

Orient will be in high spirits following a strong performance in the Capital Cup last Sunday, winning 5-2 against AFC Phoenix thanks to a hat-trick from striker Lisa Fulgence plus goals from Sophie Le Marchand and captain Danielle Griffiths.

Equally, Cambridge will also be feeling confident with their last match ending in a massive 11-0 win over Fulbourn in the County Cup.

Ones to Watch

Both Orient and Cambridge have players to look out for in this match. The O’s prolific striker Lisa Fulgence has bagged herself eight goals in nine games and will no doubt be looking to add to her tally this weekend.

Meanwhile, Cambridge striker Kelley Blanchflower will be going head-to-head with the likes of Fulgence bringing a scoring streak to the game having scored eight goals in 10 appearances.

Cup Journeys

Orient have already gone one better than their performance in the FA Women’s National League Cup during the previous campaign. They reached the first round last season, losing 3-1 to Cardiff City Ladies.

Meanwhile, opponents Cambridge may be feeling more confident seeing as they reached the second round last season, after receiving a BYE, where they faced Enfield Town Ladies and emerged 2-0 victors.

Unfortunately, their successful run came to an end after facing Coventry United Ladies who stole the match with a 5-0 win thanks to goals from Jade Brook, Natalie Haigh, Alison Hall, and substitute Jessica Lundie as Cambridge fell just short of the quarter final.

This season, both Orient and Cambridge have performed well in the FA Women’s National League Cup as shown by their last results with the O’s defeating Swindon Town Ladies 5-1, while Cambridge overcame C&K Basildon Ladies 2-0. It will be a good test to see which team can keep up their good form and progress to the next stage.

Last Meeting

Orient aim to put on a strong performance this Sunday and redeem themselves after an unfortunate 0-3 loss in their previous encounter with Cambridge, when the teams met in the FA Women’s National League at Mile End Stadium in August.

When and Where?

The game will take place at Mildenhall Town FC this Sunday 28th October with kick off at 2pm. It will surely be an entertaining match, with the O’s hoping to walk away with the win and progress to the Third Round.
