Samuelsen hoping for more playtime

Ole Saue speaks to Martin Samuelsen about his loan from West Ham u21’s to Peterborough…

The Norwegian wonder-boy hopes that regular first-team football in League One will help him on his way towards his Premier League debut for The Hammers.

An excited Samuelsen anticipates that the move could be the making of him: “This will be more special [than youth football]. More people will watch me, and every involvement will be more important from now on.”

“It’ll be good for me and my reputation if I can make a good figure,” he continued.

Samuelson made his debut with a wonderful assist that helped secure the Midlands’ clubs 4-0 win against Scunthorpe last weekend, but was excluded from the squad when The Posh beat Luton in the first round of the FA Cup this Sunday.

Peterborough manager, Graham Westley says he can’t promise the youngster playing time: “It is not an answer to the question whether he’ll get to play or not. It depends upon how he progresses and fits in.”

Impressive start

It all happened very quickly for the 18-year-old. Peterborough sent a loan request two weeks ago, and a few days later, he was sitting on the bench as the team beat Barnsley 3-2 on home turf.

Samuelsen has settled in well and is starting to find his feet: “My impression is that it is a nice club with great people. I’ve been very well welcomed,” he said.

The former Manchester City player believes that The Posh’ attacking playing style will suit him. “It is a team who likes to keep the ball within the team and play the ball along the ground.”

Westley’s been impressed with what he has seen so far and has high hopes for the Norwegian, “I’ve seen Martin play for West Ham u21 and have been impressed enough to bring him in the door. He is a very polite young man who wants to learn.”
