Squash courts are due to be erected this weekend at the East Wintergarden ahead of the Citigold Wealth Management Squash Classic.

The competition now in its 16th year is known as, the ‘Wimbledon’ of squash and will feature former world number one, and current title holder, Mohamed ElShorbagy and world number three Tarek Momen.

This year, for the first time, an extra day has been included in the schedule. Director of the tournament, Tim Garner told PSA website he was excited to open the event to new audiences:

“We are delighted to announce that this year’s event will feature an extra day’s play. For the first time action will take place on the all-glass court at the weekend. People’s Sunday will kick off the 2019 event with eight matches.”

Garner added:

“When the event started 15 years ago there were few visitors to the Canary Wharf estate at weekends but now the whole area is a hive of activity with the retail malls bustling.”

Also, after changes to the structure of the PSA last year there have been no qualifying competitions – which means that all 24 participants will have a chance to win the $109,000 prize money.

The games will be best-of-three game format up to the semi-finals following a successful trial at last year’s tournament.

The games are set to feature 10 Brits and will start at 1pm of Sunday. For those unable to get tickets, all the games will be shown SquashTV.

You are in for a tasty treat if you have managed to get tickets as the event has been sold out for a while. The tournaments semi-finals and Finals will be shown on Eurosport, BT Sport and beIN Sport.
