Tom Reeves reports as the star signs a new contract, keeping him at Chelmsford till 2016…

Essex one-day captain Ryan ten Doeschate has signed a new contract with the county as they continue to prepare for the 2015 season.

Ten Doeschate joined Essex in 2003 after the South African-born all-rounder was discovered in a pre-season tour of the country.

However, he opted to play international cricket for Holland, who he has represented 42 times to date.

In 2008, ten Doeschate became a key figure for Essex with the county winning the Friends Provident one-day Trophy and the Pro40 Division 2 title.

After he had become a well-recognised figure for county and country, the all-rounder signed for Tasmania for the Australian Twenty20 Big Bash in the 2010/11 campaign.

Ten Doeschate impressed for Tasmania and was selected to play in the IPL by the Kolkata Knight Riders the following season.

The Knight Riders have signed him for each of the past three IPL campaigns since then.

The 34-year-old has also featured in the Bangladesh Premier League and HRV Cup, New Zealand’s T20 league.

However, this hasn’t majorly affected his career with Essex, taking over the one-day captaincy from wicket-keeper James Foster in 2014 and leading the team to the quarter-finals of the T20 Blast and One-Day Cup.

The all-rounder’s new deal will keep him at Chelmsford until the end of the 2016 season.

On ten Doeschate’s new deal, Essex coach Paul Grayson said: “We are very pleased Ryan has signed a new contract. He has been a fantastic servant to us and we’re delighted he has decided to extend his stay.

“He is a key player for us and did very well in his first season captaining the one-day sides last season. Hopefully, he can build on that next term.”
