Leyton Orient ‘keeper Lawrence Vigouroux has admitted that games can be “quite dead” without fans and is excited to have them back at Brisbane Road.

The Chilean International is hoping his side can make a late play off push with the possibility of having fans being back inside the ground to see it happen.

Asked if the players were looking forward to welcoming back fans, Vigouroux answered, “Yeah of course. The fans are the life blood of the club and the games seem quite dead without them. We had them against Newport. If they weren’t there, we might not have won that game.”

Fought

The game the goalkeeper was referring to was Orient’s home fixture against Newport County, where his side fought from a goal down to win 2-1 back in December. Fans were allowed back at the game after the first set of Lockdown restrictions were relaxed, only for more to come in place soon after.

Following the game, Newport manager Mike Flynn didn’t share the same enthusiasm about welcoming fans back to E10. “I can understand sometimes why my players want to keep them away because some of the abuse the Leyton Orient fans were giving my players on the bench was awful, but hey-ho, we are all big enough to handle it.”

Vigouroux, however, is looking forward to the return of fans and the energy they bring to the ground. “They make a big difference. Hopefully we can put a smile on their face with good performances at the end of the season. They cheer you on, they help you. You can feel the energy, the pandemic has been very long. They need to go to the football because it’s what they love”.

Unbeaten

Orient currently occupy ninth place in the League Two table, four points off of the playoff spaces. And they have been in good form of late winning three win a row and going unbeaten in their last five.

The O’s travel to Mansfield Town on Friday afternoon for the first of two games over the Easter weekend, where Vigouroux will be aiming to add to his excellent record of 15 clean sheets so far this campaign.
