UEL’s Strength and Conditioning coach intern, Jessica Huggins, is about to embark on the sporting challenge of her career by competing in a charity boxing match to raise money for Cancer Research UK.

The 22-year old has had a successful sporting path so far after graduating with a 1st from Middlesex University.

Huggins has continued her sporting journey by becoming a personal trainer whist currently studying for her masters’ degree at the University of Kent.

She also participates in two sporting internships during her weeks and commutes to London for both of them:

“Monday’s and Friday’s I am completing my internships at UEL and Bromley Collage, Tuesday’s  I am studying, Wednesday’s I help train the U18’s Meridian Girls F.C and then along with the rest of the week I am attending the gym for my own workouts and doing my job of being a personal trainer.”

And now Huggins adds boxing training sessions on Monday nights to her list of activities ahead of her big fight.

“Although it seems like a lot it doesn’t feel like it, because I enjoy everything I do. And now I have taken on another factor of sport because I enjoy it and to raise money for a charity close to my heart.”

Pound-for-Pound

As a teen Jessica used to box and kick-box for leisure, so she already has some of knowledge on the sport and what to expect in the ring when she takes on her surprise opponent:

“Although I did it or fun, I also was a quick learner. And now training with professional coaches I feel more aware and alert of what to come and what to do and what to expect. ”

Huggins aimed raise £250 for Cancer Research UK and with support from family, friends and colleagues has already surpassed her target by 16%, making so far £291.

However, it’s a small drop in the ocean as the Ultra White Collar Boxing arena (UWCB) wants to raise a magnificent £20million for the charity – so far have raised £11million.

Born To Be a Boxer?

Even though the night is for charity, Jessica also sees this as an opportunity for herself:

“If I win, I am going to see it as a sign, and to take up boxing again and pursue a small career in the sport, because like I have been saying, even though it’s a lot. I enjoy it.”

The boxing event takes place on the 24th March 2018 at the Gillingham White Collar Boxing arena. 4:00pm.
