Ilford FC return to Essex Senior League action on Wednesday looking to build on their FA Vase shootout victory over Benfleet but they will have to rise to the challenge of ending Cockfosters’ 100% record so far this season.

Opposite Ends Of The Table

Following their defeat to Southend Manor last Tuesday, Ilford haven’t won in the league since their 6-2 victory over Redbridge on September 9th.

They have since progressed in the FA Vase to the First Round Proper where they have been drawn at home again to FC Clacton, and will need to build strongly on an improved second half performance against Benfleet on Saturday to face any chance of getting out of Cricklefield Stadium with a good result.

Cockfosters on the other hand have had a flying start to the season, winning six of six games so far. A positive for Ilford may be that 5 of those 6 games have been at home, with their one away victory coming against a Sporting Bengal side who are currently languishing down in 16th, two places below Ilford.

Last season was also a struggle for Cockfosters on the road, so Ilford will need to take advantage if there are any doubts in the traveling Fosters camp.

Ones To Watch

Ilford will have to be wary of Cockfosters’ attacking prowess, having scored 19 goals in their six league games so far this season. Key to their attack is player-manager Ryan Wade, who has scored 8 goals in 10 appearances so far.

Wade is also backed up by ex-Ilford striker Carl Mullings who has found the net 5 times in 8 appearances and young attacking midfielder Edward Clarke who has scored 6 goals in 7 appearances.

Ilford as always will be looking to left-wing talisman Yemi Adelani to provide the goals, but they will need strong performances at the back from the likes of Steve Sylvester-Ajudua and teenage starlet Josh Blackburn in goal to keep Cockfosters out.

It has the hallmarks of what could make a fascinating game as Cockfosters look to continue their superb start to the season whilst Ilford’s Foxes could see this game as an opportunity to give their league campaign the kickstart it needs.
