UEL Men’s 1st team prepare to take on the University of West England Men’s 1st team this Wednesday at the Sports Dock, tip-off at 4pm.

The East London team currently sit top off the top with a pristine record of four out of four wins, achieving a maximum tally of 12 points, along with an astonishing goal difference of 104.

Tantalising Form

UEL’s last encounter saw the home team emerge successful in a 86-67 win against Middlesex last Wednesday, so no doubt the table topping team with approach this next match against University of West England with confidence and determination.

Home team, UEL, are favourites coming into this match with three home wins this season, so hopefully UEL can replicate this good from and add to their collection of home wins and extend their league at the top of the Premier South League, in which they finished 2nd place last season.

Injury Crisis? What Injury Crisis?

UEL’s consistent strong play has moulded their confidence for the team to still feel reassured with some many players out like Dzaflo Larkai suffering a concussion, Kyle Gouveia with a hip injury, Dom Campbell suffering an ankle Injury on Monday and Seun also out with a hip injury, so Abraham ‘Abbi’ Eperkouh will be filling in the number 5 spot.

Tough Opposition

Visiting team, University of West England, currently sit just behind their opponents, UEL, in 2nd place with 9 points, again with a respectable record of three wins, having played four games, opposition UWE will be approaching this encounter with confidence in their team’s performance, despite UEL’s intimidating immaculate form.

The University of West England’s last match saw the visiting team, walk away with a win against Middlesex University last Wednesday in a minor 2- point 70-68 victory at Middlesex’ Capital City Academy.

UWE, bring some competition to the Sports Dock with two out of their three wins have been played away, so it will be interesting to see if UWE can stop UEL from extending their lead and UWE can increase their tally of two home wins.

Eyes Peeled

Ahead of the game tomorrow, London Lions and UEL’s Brandon Peel spoke to Rising East and had this to say: “We feel very confident, we’re understanding things a lot more, we’re communicating a lot more too which makes everything better.”

Brandon Peel dunks whilst Flo Larkai provides cover

“We have a few players out due to injury,” Peel continued. “But with the way we played last week…we still feel like we’re in a good position.”

If UEL manage to walk away with a win this week, their path to redeeming themselves and winning the league title will be more than manageable for the East London side.
