It is the last game of the season this week for the University of East London Women’s badminton team.

The Blues will travel across London to face University College London Women’s 2nd (RUMS).

The east Londoners are looking to end the season on a high and further their point score on the leader board.

Last Time Around

Last Wednesday, their fixture against Canterbury Christ Church University Women’s 1st was cancelled at the last minute and UEL were awarded a walkover due to their opponents not being able to field a team.

UEL currently sit comfortably with nine points in third position in their league, the BUCS Badminton 2018-19 – South Eastern 3B.

They’re six points ahead of the team below them, but chasing the top two by 12 points.  With only one fixture left, it’s unlikely their position will change at all.

Nevertheless, the team would be more than happy with this result.

Speaking to Rising East, UEL badminton player Abbey Conroy praised the teams progress throughout the season:

“It’s been a tough season considering we were nearly cut multiple times by UEL Sports at the beginning of the year. It’d be amazing for us to finish in the top three. I’ve definitely seen the improvement in our players as the season has continued and it’s been great to be a part of.”

The Challenger

Their opponents, University College London Women’s 2nd (RUMS) are currently second in the league with 21 points.

They’re currently drawn on points with league leaders Brunel 1st, so this fixture is a must win for them.

Earlier in the season, UEL’s home fixture saw them suffer a massive 7-1 defeat. The Blues had entered the fixture down two players, so they had to forfeit a doubles game leaving them 2-0 down before it had even started.

For University College London Women’s 2nd this is a crucial game. They will need the three points from UEL, whilst hopeful Brunel suffer a loss against their last opponents to go on and win the league.

However, the Blues will be up for the battle and will be looking to end their promotion hopes.

Time & Location?

The team will be travelling to the University of College London home facilities, Somers Town Community Sports Centre.

The game will take place on Wednesday, 20th of March and is scheduled for 2:00pm start.
