A 6-0 defeat to Kings College on Wednesday means UEL Women’s Badminton team are now out of the BUCS South Eastern Conference Cup. This was only the sides second game of the season.

After an arduous start to the season, UEL were excited to be competing once again. With three of their previous matches postponed and cancelled this was their first game since October.

The home side were at an immediate disadvantage as they were two players down which meant they were without a second doubles pair.

Keeping Positive

Although the blues were defeated, there was a standout performance from new singles player, Lahari Parvathaneni, just missing out on winning two of her four matches.

In her first match of the day, Parvathaneni impressed the rest of the team with two 19-21 results, narrowly missing out on the win.

After the match Parvathaneni expressed her mixed feelings surrounding the cup match: “It’s been a great match today, losing against Kings with 19-21 I feel sad just losing the game with one point, but that’s pretty good.”

The singles player is passionate about being part of the team’s future: “I feel I’ve been improving a lot week by week and trust me I feel that one day I’m going to get a trophy for the university before I leave next year. I hope to achieve it. I’ve seen there is no women’s badminton club receiving any trophies, I’m hoping to receive one in the future” she said.

Looking Ahead

No longer being in the cup means that the women are now putting all their focus into the league. They currently sit third in the league, six points behind University College London 2nd team at the top.

Next up for UEL Women is an away game against Canterbury Christ Church University 1st team on November 28th at 1:30pm.
