UEL Badminton lost their Big Blue Wednesday fixture against University College London 7-1 on Wednesday.

This was the first year that the club only had one team competing on Big Blue Wednesday due to the men’s team being cut in October.

Feeling Optimistic

UEL went into the match feeling confident with their improving form and one player in particular, Lahari Parvathaneni, reflected this in her results. Winning her first match 21-19 and 21-15, she went on to then take her second match to three games narrowly missing out on her second victory of the day.

However once again UEL were unable to field a full team resulting in forfeiting two of their games.

The only doubles pair playing were captain, Chloe Stephenson and Czerrina Salayog. This was the first match the pair had played together but they showed promising signs of becoming a strong doubles team, managing to score over 13 points against their opposition in each game.

Parvathaneni spoke after the game praising the team on how far they have come this year: “The results are quite good compared to the previous matches. The team has managed to perform their best and have improved a lot from our early losses.”

The singles player also reflected on her personal performance which helped her to win three of her five games: “Being an aggressive player I’ve learnt to be more composed and patient while playing the games.”

What’s To Come?

After the frustration of another defeat UEL will be looking to come back stronger in their next fixture, where they will take on UCL again in the away match.

The match will take place on Wednesday 20th February away at UCL.
