UEL Handed Home Tie Against Hallam

UEL Women’s Volleyball first team return to SportsDock with Sheffield Hallam University the visitors in the BUCS Championship quarter-finals this Wednesday. Dan Walker previews the clash.

Premier South Champions UEL take on Sheffield Hallam this Wednesday in the quarter-finals of the BUCS National Championship.

After wrapping up the title last month, the Blues return to SportsDock as they pursue a league and cup double. As Premier South Champions, UEL enter the competition at the quarter-final stage having received a ‘bye’ in the previous round.

Coach Jefferson Williams is open about his desire to win the competition:

“The feeling of winning is always nice, however it’s not enough and won’t be until we win the Championships,” Jefferson said.

“We will continue to chase the dream as long as the opportunity is still there.”

Cloud Nine

Sheffield finished fourth in the Premier North Division, racking up nine points with a double over Edinburgh and a victory at home to Newcastle.

A comfortable 3-0 victory against Oxford in the last-16 of the Championships saw Sheffield confirmed as UEL’s opponents.

Fate Awaits

All six teams from both the Premier South and North have the chance to compete for the National Championship, with the top two sides from both regions receiving a ‘bye’ and heading straight to the quarter-final.

If UEL are to win their home tie against Sheffield, they would face cup-holders Northumbria or Bournemouth in the semi-final of the tournament.

When and Where?

The tie will be played at SportsDock this Wednesday afternoon with the match scheduled to begin at 13:00.

Elsewhere, UEL’s Men’s first team will be in action straight after the women as they too take on Sheffield Hallam in their quarter-final tie.
