UEL Women’s 1st team survived a first half scare against bottom of the league LSE Women, before a rampant second half display saw them come away with a resounding victory.

A disjointed opening half from East London’s Women saw passes go astray, shots fly wide and a lack of urgency in their play.

Half time could not have come any sooner for East London as it gave them a chance to voice concerns, evaluate and reset.

Second Half Flurry

After a vocal ‘wakeup call’ from their manager, who in simple terms labelled the first half as “quite embarrassing” and “the worst half seen all season”. East London kicked into gear straight from the off.

Picking up from her mazy running and goal in the first half, Brooke Flew galvanised her teammates from the middle of the park, dictating the speed of play while organising and encouraging the high press.

This became infectious as East London began to find a rhythm and kept LSE contained within their own half for the majority of the second half. “We stepped on the gas straight from the kick-off after half time.

Wrapping Up The Victory

There was definitely a huge change in tactics and “mentality” according to Erin Corrigan who also got on the scoresheet.

Melanie Bedoya Loaiza scored three goals as she tormented the opposition defence with her direct running and clinical finishing.

Further goals from Elise Purser and Angel Okoturo sealed a 7 – 2 victory for the home side.

UEL Women’s next game is home to Imperial Women’s where they will be hoping to make it three wins on the bounce.
