Mark Ferguson reports as an international golf star dusts himself off from Ryder Cup ignominy to head to the London Golf Club.

US Ryder Cup star Patrick Reed will come up against his European foes once again as he returns to the UK to compete at the 2014 Volvo World Match Play Championship.

Although the 24-year-old wound up on the losing side at Gleneagles, he could be extremely proud of his performance after winning three and a half points to remain unbeaten during his Ryder Cup debut.

Reed was undoubtedly the standout star in an otherwise underwhelming US team – his display of passion, fight and highly animated celebrations certainly kept the crowd entertained, not to mention some first-class golf over the three days.

Spectators at the London Golf Club in Kent can expect more of the same as Reed will be hoping to rekindle some of that Ryder Cup energy and restore US pride by seeing off his European rivals.

The Texan will be joined by six members of the winning European Ryder Cup team which includes defending champion Graeme McDowell, Henrik Stenson, Thomas Bjorn, Jamie Donaldson, Victor Dubuisson and Stephen Gallacher.

They will form a highly competitive 16-man field as the tournament celebrates its 50th anniversary on 15-19 October.

Also teeing up at the International Course will be former European Ryder Cup stars Francesco Molinari and Paul Casey.

The rest of the field will be made up by 2014 Abu Dhabi HSBC Golf Champion Pablo Larrazabal, double PGA Tour winner Jonas Blixt, Thongchai Jaidee, Alexander Levy, Joost Luiten, Shane Lowry and Mikko Ilonen.
