Warrens Prodigies to Graduate

Once every so often, well established boxing promoters will accommodate small-hall prospect shows. This gives local prospects a chance to shine on the big stage. Frank Warren will be launching a version of this on Friday night billed as 'Box Academy'. Mihail Mitov Reports

With Frank Warrens big guns Daniel Dubois, Anthony Yarde and Archie Sharpe stepping aside for one night only, this gives way to fresh batch of new prospects who look to flaunt their talent on the big stage.

Undefeated British Super-Lightweight prospect Sanjeev Sahota is looking likely to headline the show as negations are ongoing to find him an opponent. Alongside Sahota, fellow Super-Bantamweight stablemate, Josh Kennedy from Folkestone will look to extend his undefeated record to 11-0.

Meanwhile, undefeated Sidcup Lightweight D.P. Carr faces his toughest test yet in Paul Holt, and popular super-lightweight ‘Champaign’ Charlie Driscoll will take a big crowd from South Ockendon in hope to guide him to his sixth professional win from his unblemished career.

Main Event

Essex-born Sanjeev Sahota will take to the squared circle for the first time since his win over Slovakian Ivan Godor over the festive periodr at the Copper Box Arena.

In an interview for BoxNation’s youtube channel Sahota was optimistic of 2018. “This will be a big year for me. I think that every fighter out there would like to win titles. If a fighter out there doesn’t want to win a title, he is the wrong game.

“In my heart, I always knew where I want to be. But like I always say- I take each fight as it comes.” Said Sahota.

“My management team have got a plan and we are sticking to it. The plan has worked and I am expecting a big year.”

The other big fight of the evening will be super-bantamweight prospect, Josh Kennedy. Kennedy like Sahota, will be pending an opponent of whom will be announced later this week.

For Kennedy who carries the nickname ‘Handsome’, it will be his first fight of the year following a unanimous decision win over Michael Barnor in December, in his only bout outside of York Hall.

Kennedy who holds the Super Bantamweight Southern Area title has been a motivational speaker for young kids. In a short documentary for ITV, the 26-year-old mentioned his ambition to turn these kids ambition into reality in a scheme named ‘The Passion Project’.

“The Passion Project is to inspire kids to find their passions in life. If I didn’t have boxing, I would probably still be working at the pub,” said Kennedy

“My message to kids is to try as well as you can in school. What you get in school, that will set you up for the rest of your life.

“I do what I do now to teach young people my mistakes, I realised too late how important education was.”

Josh Kennedy’s main goal of the year is to fight for the British title which is currently held by Thomas Patrick Ward’s

Future Stars

D.P Carr, Charlie Driscoll and Zak Chelli are a few of the future champions to watch this Friday. For Carr who looks extend his perfect record to 9-0, this would a first fight in almost nine months after his points win against durable Michael Mooney. Charlie Driscoll is the son of former pro and now England amateur coach, Mick Driscoll. His fight this Friday will be his sixth professional fight after turning professional in 2016. His opponent will also be revealed later this week.

For hard punching super-middleweight, Zak Chelli, this will be a second fight at York Hall after turning pro in February 2017. Chelli who will fight for the first time this year is rated by the British public as the biggest prospect in the super-middleweight division.
