Richie Wellens has signed a new three-year contract with Leyton Orient, tying him to the club until the end of the 2025 season.

Wellens’ new deal comes with Orient at the top of the League Two table, having made their best-ever start to a league campaign.

Wellens gave his thoughts on his new deal in an interview with the club’s media team:

“I think that it’s a Club going in the right direction. It’s a pleasure to work for the owners and the board, as well as the staff and the players here.

“For me, it was an easy decision, we now need to kick on and achieve what is our ultimate aim.

“I’ve felt the warmth since day one, so I just want to ask the supporters to keep on supporting me and the team, and backing us in your numbers.”

“It feels good, like we could achieve something special together, so just keep doing what you’re doing.”

The manager’s impact since joining the club has been remarkable.

Orient were drifting towards a relegation battle midway through last season but Wellens’ arrival in March sparked a turnaround in results as the club rallied to finish in 13th position.

The O’s have continued that form into this season and are currently five points clear at the top of the league having lost only two out of their 19 games.

Leyton Orient host fellow promotion hopefuls Bradford City at Brisbane Road on Saturday afternoon as the O’s look to win their fourth home game in a row in League Two.
