Award show nominations are often in the limelight for their lack of diversity; generally they have been dominated by the white men. Despite its less than inclusive history, the Grammys (American music industry awards) seem to be looking up.

The nominees for album of the year this year are:

Childish Gambino – Awaken, My Love!

Lorde – Melodrama

Jay-Z’s 4:44

Kendrick Lamar – Damn

Bruno Mars –  24K Magic

Last time the category had zero white men was the iconic year of 1999 when Garbage, Lauryn Hill, Madonna, Sheryl Crow and Shania Twain on the nomination list.

Maybe the sixtieth year of this musical institution will finally mark a change – the jury, as they say, is still out.
