‘Wish You Were Here’ at UEL

Students at the University of East London were given a music treat last week ahead of Christmas headlined by Knight, the university’s own student band.

Songs covered by Knight at the Dockland campus’s student union bar included “Wish You Were Here” by Pink Floyd, Dio’s “Holy Diver” and “Whom the Bells Toll” by Metallica.

Knight members are four UEL students who met at the university: Ryan Lynch (drums) Daniel Purll (guitar), Michael Peters (vocals), and Camden O’Keeffe (bass).

The band played Everlong by the Foo Fighters to end the show last week.

Knight members told Rising East that since this was their “first live performance”  in a live audience” they were inspired by Metallica, whose song “Whom the Bells Toll” the band covered at the beginning of their performance at the student union bar.

The band is planning to release some “original content sometime next year” with influences from “older bands like Metalica and Dio”.

“We are gonna try and write some riffs and stuff over Christmas, and then regroup and work on it together,” said Camden O’Keeffe. As for now it’s still early days and they are “still trying to find a sound they enjoy playing.”

The group hopes to perform their own songs at the next UEL showcase next year.
