African Fashion In London: Integration Or Colonisation?

African Fashion Week, Africa On The Square – a series of recent events in London has put African fashion on the map like never before.

African prints have long been available in London markets such as Petticoat Lane and Portobello Road. But now high street retailers such as Topshop and Primark are creating African inspired clothing, using traditional prints as the basis for new fashion lines.

If the high street puts on African styles, does this mean that people of African origin are being ripped off all over again?

Or should we applaud this development as a sign that Africans really are welcome down the high street nowadays?

Please let us have your opinions so that these questions can be properly debated.
