Top Spot Up For Grabs As UEL Take On City

University London and University of East London are set to showdown in a top-of-the-table battle on Wednesday at Lee Valley. Teri Dormer previews.

UEL face possibly their toughest game of the year when they take on league leaders University of City London for a 6:30pm kick off this Wednesday.

If UEL win they will be top of the league for the first time this season. A tough game lies ahead and tensions are in the air as a few players are missing from the team. Even if everybody is present the team will only have one substitute.

Battle for the top

UEL have had a great start to the 2017/18 season. They are still undefeated, winning one and drawing two they are hoping to continue the fine form.

City have been top from the beginning, they are also undefeated winning two and drawing one. City are two points above UEL so it’s a very crucial game for both teams, and UEL must win in order steal the top spot.

Injury Disappointment

Striker for the East London side Robert Wheeler sustained a foot injury in training on Monday so he will be out for match day. Following an X-Ray, the results showed no sign of a break, only expected ligament damage but Wheeler will still be attending this week’s match. He said that although he won’t be playing he is “very excited for the game ahead. It’s disappointing that I won’t be playing but I’ll be there to support the boys and hopefully we will come out with a win.”

The season is coming to a quick end. Wednesday’s game will be the last hockey match of 2017 and when we enter the new year only two more fixtures are scheduled, as a result of there being only four teams in the league. Nevertheless this means that UEL are even closer to becoming title leaders.

Winning the league is very important for UEL this season, following a devastating relegation last season, and UEL’s goal this year is to get promoted back up.
