There are several ways to celebrate Halloween, which is one of my favourite holidays. Some people throw parties, others go trick or treating with their families and some prefer to stay in and binge watch as many horror movies as possible (with good food and drink!). I am a big fan of horror movies however I struggle finding good ones that I haven’t watched before. If you have the same issue as me, then I have done the work for you!

  1. Hush (2016)

Hush is a thriller movie available on Netflix. It takes place in a large house in the United States where a deaf woman who lives on her own is attacked by a trespasser, and in order to survive she’s got to fight for her life. “I’ve seen this before.”…you may think, but this movie takes an original twist to it that I have never seen before! This movie is definitely one of my favourites due to its suspense and excitement. I have watched this about six times (if not more), and I even got my friends who aren’t into thrillers, hooked on it.

  1. The Strangers: Prey at Night (2018)

A Netflix thriller about a family of four who go on a trip to a countryside cabin, not knowing what goes on in their uncle’s “freaky” area. It is when they hear knocks on their doors from a lost girl that the excitement of this movie starts. It is suspenseful from the beginning and I think a good thriller/horror movies needs a lot of suspense in order to make it to my top list! The Strangers: Prey at Night , is a sequel to The Strangers (2008), which has a similar plot. However I would still recommend the remake more than the original.

  1. Hell Fest (2018)

Hell Fest has recently been released to Netflix, but was screening at the movie theatre exactly a year ago! I went to see it with my mom and I absolutely loved the plot. This movie takes place at a festival where a bunch of teenagers end up disappearing after a masked individual shows up. Although these types of movies have been done before, they’re perfect for the Halloween season! I don’t want to spoil anything, but the ending might even hint at a sequel.

  1. Orphan (2009)

Orphan is an oldie but goodie. It centres around an American family who decide to adopt a nine-year old girl from foster care not knowing how big of a threat she will be to them. This movie has a star cast including Vera Farmiga, which made the movie ten times better for me. I have watched this movie many times since it came out, and I’m sure you will too!

  1. The Boy (2016)

This is a psychological thriller in which Greta, a young woman, offers to babysit for a family not knowing the child she is about to meet is a life-size doll! I did not have high expectations for this movie because I am not a big fan of Annabelle, which seems to be along the same lines. However, once I started watching this, I was obsessed. Usually in a movie like this, you expect the plot to involve the supernatural, but it’s actually the opposite which I think was extremely interesting and worth a second watch!

Happy Halloween!
