Charlton will go head to head with AFC Wimbledon at the Kingsmeadow Stadium this Saturday for their League One clash.

Charlton currently sit in seventh place, two points off the final play-off spot while their relegation-threatened hosts occupy 18th position in the table.

With the previous meeting ending 3-1 away to the Wombles in the FA Cup fixture in December, the visitors will be hoping to redeem themselves in the upcoming meeting. However, Charlton will take solace in the fact that the last league match between the two sides ended 1-0 at The Valley earlier in the season, with a Ricky Holmes goal being the difference.

The Addicks have only won on the solitary occasion in their last five, with a 2-0 home defeat to Shrewsbury Town the latest poor result for the side. Surprisingly, Charlton have been strong on the road in recent months and are unbeaten on their last four travels.

Possible Postponement

Charlton Manager Karl Robinson has expressed his desire to have the match against the Dons underway as soon as possible following the news of potential snowy weather threatening to postpone the game to a later date.

Robinson told News Shopper: “We’re desperate for the AFC Wimbledon game to be on. There’s a probability that the Plymouth game could be called off as well”, adding “And then all of a sudden we’ve got to play Blackpool away, we’ll have to play Shrewsbury away, we’ll have to play Wimbledon and Plymouth on a Tuesday.”

International call ups for England Under20 defender Ezri Konsa, in-form forward Josh Magennis and on-loan Arsenal striker Stephy Mavididi are also expected and may pose a serious threat to the club’s promotion hopes.

Fixture Pile-up

Robinson stated that: “We’ll still have 13 games to play going into the last seven weeks of the season” – a total of 39 points still to play for from now until the end of the season. Robinson also mentioned that “You’ve got to look at that and see it’s going to be difficult to take on all those teams. We’re going to dance around it very cleverly, we’ve got a plan.”

A game which could prove pivotal for Charlton come the end of the season in aiding them with their playoff aspirations.
