In an interview with the University of East London Hernandez opened up on the current situation that women’s football is facing and how she and her team are making it through the tough times.

In response to a question about any remaining BUCS fixtures being played this academic year Hernandez stated, “We’re not going to be playing any league games. “We’re just going to have training and friendlies.”

Coach Ryan Gordon

The COVID-19 pandemic is the reason for the cancellation of the UEL Women’s team’s season however Hernandez and her teammates are being kept active and upbeat by their head Coach Ryan Gordon.

Gordon is a very well respected coach with 25 years of coaching experience in grassroots, semi-pro and professional football. The head coach has a degree in sport and exercises science to go with his psychology masters.

Gordon’s expertise is seen through Alba Hernandez as she specified what the head coach has been doing to keep the team fit and how she has been finding the motivation to push for the next season.

“Our coach Ryan is amazing,” she stated, “He makes plans for us, this week you have to run 2k next week you have to run 5.

Training In Lockdown

“I have been training and playing football with my friends in the park. “It wasn’t that easy because I’m a bit lazy, to be honest. “When you go with friends it’s easier and you’re releasing endorphins”.

The Spanish fullback explained how the team has been keeping up morale and how the girls are supporting each other in these tough times.

“We have a group chat, we discuss in there every week, she said. “We do video chats, play games and discuss when to catch up

“If someone has problems we always try and help them out.” The Madrid born footballer was keen to finally get back out onto the pitch on the 21st when the UEL Women’s team host a friendly match in Hackney at 2 pm.
