Alisauskas Vows To Put Repton Back On Map

East London boxer Vilius Alisauskas claims he is ready to show that Repton can still produce senior champions, as he approaches the Elite National Championships for the club next weekend. Conail Gallagher reports.

The 21-year-old Alisauskas is a novice of 15 fights for Repton Amateur Boxing Club, but is keen to prove he is not in the competition to make up numbers.

Alisauskas said: “This is the biggest competition in the country and my chance to show that I’m the best at my weight. Winning would get my name known throughout amateur boxing.

“It also attracts promoters from the pro game so my name will be in the mix when I want to turn over.”

Decline

Despite having boxers entering the competition each year in every weight division from 60 kg to 91 kg, recent years have seen a decline in senior success for Repton. However, Alisauskas is confident that the quality of fighters from the club has not dipped.

“In recent years, Repton hasn’t had as many champions as back in the day.” Alisauskas admitted. “But with the boxers in the club right now we can remind everyone that Repton is the best club in the country and we breed champions.”

Alisauskas faces a tough task of proceeding through the London Division next weekend, as there are 13 fighters who have entered his weight class, including three other Repton fighters.
