After being defeated in a close encounter against Rosslyn Park away 28-22 last time out, it meant Blackheath suffered consecutive losses for the first time this season.  The two negative results have seen them slip from the summit of the table down to fourth. The South-East London side will be keen to get there form back on track against the team currently struggling in the bottom-half of the table.

Recent Form

Back-to-back losses to fellow title challengers Rosslyn Park and Ampthill respectively have put Blackheath on the back foot in the race for top spot. The club have also suffered another recent loss to mid table side Plymouth. However, wins over Darlington Mowden Park and current table toppers Old Elthamians show signs of optimism for the club.

Cambridge head into this fixture similar to Blackheath, losing three of their last five, including their last two away games. Those away losses came at the hands of Plymouth and Chinnor respectively as well as a home defeat to Ampthill last weekend. The two victories have come against strugglers Loughborough Students and Esher, who both find themselves in a relegation battle.

Force

Despite a recent loss of form Blackheath still remain a force at home, winning six of the nine games they’ve played at Well Hall, including victories over the likes of Chinnor and Rosslyn Park. In contrast, Cambridge’s away form isn’t too dissimilar to their form at home, winning four and losing five.

The main source of Cambridge’s issues this season seem to come in attack, scoring just 394 points in the 20 games they’ve played, an average of just under 20, the lowest in the division.

Past results suggest another bad result could be in the offing for Cambridge, with Blackheath winning the reverse fixture 24-43 in round seven at Grantchester Road. Blackheath were victorious in both encounters between the pair last season.

The game kicks off at 2pm on Saturday 2nd February at Well Hall.
