The UEL Women’s football first team return to BUCS competition against University College London Women’s first team this Wednesday.

This game could be pivotal in determining how the team progresses for the rest of the season.

After a two month break, match fitness and replicating their rhythm from before Christmas will be key.

UCL currently sit fourth in the South Eastern 1A Division. With a game in-hand, they will be looking to gain ground on third-place St Mary’s.

Fine Form

After losing 7-2 at bitter rivals Brunel University on 17th October, UEL managed five wins and one draw, completing the calendar year with only two losses and a six-game unbeaten streak.

They are still in contention for the cup as well as the league title, which will have the dressing room in good spirits. However, the question remains whether this run can continue.

All Square

Joint top of the table with Brunel, having collected 16 points, UEL were denied a deserved three points by a late equaliser when the sides drew 2-2 in their final match of 2018.

This may deem costly as Brunel have one game in-hand over the east-Londoners.

It may have a knock-on effect amongst the team, who ended the year on a result which felt like a defeat.

Having played one game less, UEL may feel an added pressure to win. They will be desperate to rekindle the form they discovered prior to Christmas.

Winning Mentality

For the last three seasons, the women’s team have been dominant in the league and will be looking to win the cup again this season.

After winning the Conference Cup last season, they will be looking to claim the BUCS Football 2018-2019 Trophy.

This team is driven by an ambitious leader, captain Daisy Davis, who was full of praise for her side at the halfway stage of the season.

They have a hunger to succeed and believe anything is possible as they look to bring further silverware to the University.
