Ryder On The Road To Title Shot

Jarrel Brown updates the big fight for London’s John Ryder at the Copper Box this weekend.

John ‘The Guerrilla’ Ryder is hoping for one of the biggest wins of his pro boxing career when he takes on undefeated Super Middleweight contender Andrey Sirotkin in the Copperbox arena this weekend.

The fight is scheduled to be 12 three-minute rounds and will serve as a final eliminator for the WBA Super Middleweight world title which is currently held by world boxing super series 2018 winner Callum Smith.

The last time ‘The Guerrilla’ was in action was back in May 2018 when he fought against Jamie Cox on the undercard for David Haye vs Tony Bellew 2.

Impressed

After a notable second-round knockout against Cox, Ryder has impressed the promoters enough to earn a chance to challenge for the title. At the age of 30, Ryder has still got a lot of time to leave his mark on British boxing.

During the start of his career Ryder went 15-0. But he lost to a then young prospect Billy Joe Saunders by unanimous decision back in 2013. However, Ryder bounced back and won 11 of his next 14 fights and is currently on a two-fight winning streak.

Ryder has got potential to becoming Britain’s next super middleweight break out star and we will see this weekend if he can get the job done.

His opponent Russian born Andrey Sirotkin is on a great run. Currently holding a 15-0, he is one of the most dominant middleweights in Europe today.

Winning many championships along the way, Sirotkin will be a challenge for the experienced Ryder. This is a great chance for both men as the winner will get their first ever shot at a world title.

The ring walkout for the main events is scheduled to be at 9pm with the undercard starting from 7:30 pm on Sky Sports 1.
