Leyton Orient appointed former West Ham United player and Ex-Plymouth Argyle manager Carl Fletcher as their new Head Coach on Wednesday evening.

The 39-year-old joins the East London side 13 games into the League Two campaign, after Ross Embleton took on the Interim role as Head Coach in June following the tragic passing of Gaffer Justin Edinburgh this Summer.

”We’ve got 33 games left. Theres still a long time to go. Whatever time you take over you want to try and get some specifics in that you want. I’m lucky that the staff here are good, the players are good so you try and get them in as quickly as possible.”

Fletcher returns to first-team football after six years away from management having worked at AFC Bournemouth most recently, taking on roles such as U23’s Coach, U18 Coach and Loans manager, but insists now is the right time to make a return to the dugout.

”This came up, and it just ticked loads of boxes. It had a lot of the vibes of Bournemouth: family, good morals, trying to do things the right way and being together as one with the community and fans.”

Embleton will return to his preferred post as assistant, but will manage Orient one last time this weekend away to Grimsby Town.

In true footballing fate, Fletcher’s first game in charge will be this Tuesday against his former side, Plymouth Argyle at Home Park.
