Charlton host Ipswich at the Valley on Saturday in a must-win game for the Addicks as they look to keep their faltering play-off hopes alive.

Adkins The Saviour

Addicks new manager Nigel Adkins is off to a great start with a 2-2 draw to AFC Wimbledon and two wins against Doncaster Rovers and Sunderland in his first three matches in charge, however he came in at a time when Charlton need results right away as they were over 10 points away from the playoff spots.

With the early success for Adkins, he has reduced the gap to just being 3 points behind 6th placed Portsmouth FC. The match against Ipswich Town will be Adkins first match in charge at The Valley as his first three games in charge were away and he is looking forward to the occasion.

Tough Test

Ipswich Town who are just two points below Charlton, it will be a tough fixture despite the visitors going their last matches without a win.

Chelsea starlet Ian Maatsen could be without a big miss for the hosts as he was forced off against Sunderland with a hip injury, this could be a big blow for the Addicks as Maatsen was in a good run of form.

Injury Woes

Chuks Aneke and Conor Washington are expected to both be out on Saturday as they continue to battle groin and hamstring injuries. Akin Famewo could return after a knock has kept him sidelined.

Two key components of a hot and cold season for Charlton, Albie Morgan and Matt Smith both clocked minutes for the u23’s as they look to return to full fitness and first team football, and despite Marcus Maddison returning on his loan from Bolton, he won’t be available as he is taking a break from football.

Ipswich will definitely be without midfielder Josh Harrop as he was dismissed during Tuesday’s loss to AFC Wimbledon.

Goals have come few and far between at Ipswich, whose play-off ambitions are all but gone, whilst Charlton still have plenty to play for.
