Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer has admitted he is keen to sign a new left-back in January.

The 44-year-old has been forced to use the right-footed Chris Solly in an unfavored position with Lewis Page being sidelined with a hip injury.

Whilst the 27-year-old has done an impressive job deputizing, Bowyer prioritised bringing in a new left-sided defender.

Long-Term Casualty

The Addicks have been without Page, the club’s only left-back, since early-October after he sustained an injury during a 5-3 defeat to Sculthorpe United.

The South London club’s manager, is now planning to reinforce in that area when the January transfer window opens.

He insists that signing a new left-back to cover for Page is top of his transfer wish list to provide both cover for the former West Ham United player and to relinquish Solly of his role as deputy.

The Summer Risk

Lee Bowyer added to the ‘This Is Local London’ website:

“I need a left back. I need a left back for cover for Page.”

“Chris Solly is doing a great job out there but it’s uncomfortable for him, you can tell at times, but he’s doing a great job for me.”

“If there’s someone that I could’ve brought in the summer it would’ve been a left back, but we had to prioritize and just hope that Page wouldn’t get injured, but unfortunately for us he’s got injured and we ain’t go not cover there.”

“That’s definitely somewhere I need to bring someone in during January.”

Ten Weeks Minimum

Speaking about the timescale of Page’s hip injury, the manager revealed that the recover process is taking longer than originally imagined.

The 22-year-old is now facing a minimum of ten weeks on the sidelines having already spent four weeks out injured.

Bowyer added:“He’s been out for four [weeks]. We thought it was only going to be four to six but now it’s gone to six to 10 [weeks]. Well, to 10 [weeks], Minimum.”
