Charlton Athletic Women face a quick turnaround as they take on London City Lionesses following a disappointing 1-1 draw with Leicester City on Sunday.
The Addicks came close to claiming their first win of the season but following a frustrating second-half performance, the Foxes battled back to claim a point.
Now Riteesh Mishra’s side return to FA Women’s League Cup action on Wednesday in what is expected to be a tough London derby.
Familiar Faces
London City have made a thoroughly impressive start to the season currently sat second in the FA Women’s Championship.
Over the summer, the Lionesses poached a number of Charlton’s key players including Liz Ejupi, Lily Agg and Charlotte Gurr.
The trio will return to the Oakwood during the week hoping to cause an upset by moving above their former side in Group B.
City were also in league action on Sunday claiming three points against Crystal Palace.
Tough Test
Mishra is expecting a “tough test” against the Lionesses this week as his side prepares to welcome back the trio of former players.
“We’re three games unbeaten, but it will be a tough test against London City, we know them as they’ve got a lot of familiar faces to us,” said the manager.
“They’re doing very well, so that’s going to be a real tough test for us and then back to league action on Sunday.
“The good thing is we’ve got a game straight away so we can’t rest on the game against Leicester for too long.
“But it’s a big month for us and we need players to stand up, we need big personalities, players who are prepared to fight and also when it gets to difficult moments we need players to take responsibility. If we do that we’ll be fine.”
Rising East Player Focus: Liz Ejupi (London City)
The former Addicks forward finished as the club’s top scorer last season before making the switch to City.
The 25-year-old netted her first goal for her new club on the weekend coming on as second-half substitute to win the game.
She will now be looking to strike again when she faces her former teammates on Wednesday.
