Mention Fifapub to any FIFA fan in east London, and they’ll most likely know what your talking about.

However if you are not into FIFA you may be left wondering what it is, so this is a rundown on what Fifapub is and how it works.

What Is It?

Fifapub is the biggest video gaming pub league in the UK. Run at The Craft Beer Company in Old Street, a stone’s throw away from Old St station, it is convenient and easy for people wanting to get involved to get to.

Every Monday night, games kick-off at 7pm, with warm up games starting at 5pm.

It’s a chilled and casual vibe for people to both socialise and play FIFA – the perfect combination.

FIFA 20 is the newest game in the cycle run by EA, who release a new game corresponding with the start of every football season, which runs until the start of the next season when the new one is released.

There are currently more casual players of FIFA, but E-Sports and FIFA Professionals are on the rise, and they play games of FIFA in front of huge crowds on streaming websites such as ‘Twitch’, and complete in global tournaments for massive prizes.

However Fifapub is more for the casual player, who is looking at just honing their skills.

Fifapub Format

Fifapub runs a 32-team tournament format, which allows competitors to play a fair amount of games, regardless of their skill level, and ensures a level playing field (no pun intended), for everyone wanting to compete.

Users pick seven teams from a selection, which must total to no more than 28 points, to play as.

For example, Juventus and Barcelona are six-point teams, Liverpool and Real Madrid are five-point teams, and so on – Below is an example of what a seven team layout looks like:

Barcelona – Six points

Liverpool – Five Points

Real Madrid – Five Points

Spurs – Four Points

Leicester – Three Points

Dortmund – Three Points

RB Lepzig – Two Points

Total – 28 Points

The reasoning for these point totals is due to the team’s star ranking in FIFA, so for example where RB Leipzig are only two points, that is due to them being a 3.5 star team in the game.

When by contrast, Barcelona are a five star team in the game, therefore are able to be of a higher points total than most teams within the game.

The star ratings are based on the teams’ real life performance, so for example, with Liverpool having just won the UEFA Champions League, this put them up to being a five star team; when previously they were four in previous game cycles.

Each player is then enabled to play the bare minimum of five games, with three group stage games. Players in first and second place advance to the Champions League, with third and fourth place going into the Europa League, with the format then being the traditional, Last 16, Quarter Finals, Semi Final and a Final.
