Chelmsford City Vying For Victory

George Geaves reports on Chelmsford;s weekend tie.

Chelmsford City are back in action this weekend away at Dulwich Hamlet in the National League South.

Rod Stringer’s men staged an epic comeback last weekend, scoring two goals in the last five minutes to secure a 2-1 victory at home against Dartford and his side will hope to bring that momentum into this week’s trip to Champion Hill.

Mixed Fortunes

The sides drew 2-2 in the reverse fixture at Melbourne Stadium but since then their fortunes have been completely opposite. City sit in fourth and have lost just once in their last six games, a run that included two victories over Billericay Town.

Dulwich however are just five points adrift of the relegation zone and have not won since Boxing Day, so the sides are at opposite ends of the form table.

The stats would point to a Chelmsford victory, but the game will not be that clear cut. The Clarets have faltered away from home at times this season, losing away at both East Thurrock and Slough Town which are both games they would have expected to win.

Murphy On Fire

Chelmsford’s top scorer Rhys Murphy is just coming back from an injury lay off and his impact was felt instantly last weekend, scoring the winner against a good Dartford side.

The Arsenal academy graduate has scored 16 goals this season and is top of the league scoring charts, so his involvement will be key if City are to win this weekend.

Scott Fenwick has been struggling with tonsillitis recently and therefore he is a doubt for Saturday’s game. The ex-Hartlepool striker has linked up well with Murphy and is top of the Clarets’ assist charts, so they will be hoping that he is fit to play.

Blunt Attack

Dulwich have struggled for goals this season, with the third-worst tally in the league and no player has scored more than eight goals for them this term. This was exacerbated last weekend when they failed to score against 21st placed East Thurrock.

This game is sure to spring a few surprises with Chelmsford chasing promotion and Dulwich looking to get breathing room between themselves and the relegation spaces.
