Dagenham & Redbridge were defeated in a 1-0 loss against League 2 side Salford City in the first round of the FA Cup.

It could not have been a worse start for Dagenham & Redbridge – within the first three minutes of the gamethe opening, and only, goal was scored from a corner by Salford City’s Jordan Turnball, assisted by a cross from Liam Shephard.

Following the early goal scored by the visitors, the Daggers attempted to reply immediately, by maintaining possession and pressuring Salford.

Offside

The home side was unfortunate as Mauro Vilhete had a chance to equalise following good possession of the ball however it was ruled offside.

Dag & Red had the most chances to score in the second half after relentless pressure on the Ammies, including two great opportunities for Angelo Balanta who was kept out after impressive saves from Salford City goalkeeper Connor Ripley.

The game was halted in the 89th minute due to a Dagenham & Redbridge supporter requiring medical attention after suffering a head injury. Play resumed after the supporter was taken away on a stretcher for further treatment. The Daggers were unable to find a late equaliser despite 10 minutes of additional time.

Salford City’s victory will send them through to the second round of the FA Cup where they lost to Newport County last season. Meanwhile, Dagenham & Redbridge look ahead to their next league game against Yeovil Town on Saturday.
