On Thursday the 10th November British rapper and songwriter Dappy performed the London leg of his ‘Duki Playground Tour 2021’ at Electric Brixton.

With surprise supporting acts from the UK grime and rap scene including, Not3s, Ramz, Backroad Gee, Tion Wayne and Ardee.

With a near capacity crowd of 1500, Dappy delighted the crowd with a mixture of past and present hits.

In his third decade of performing as a musician, Dappy continues to create a buzz within the UK’s RnB, grime and mainstream scenes.

The rapper from Camden gained two certified gold plaques with Ndubz during the 2000s, a number 1 single with ‘No regrets’ and a top 10 album during the 2010s.

And despite the restrictions of the pandemic Dappy continues to stay relevant with collaborations with a number of top artists within the music industry in 2020 and 2021.

Vibes

It would have been a surprise if Dappy arrived on stage on time, but when he eventually came out he didn’t disappoint.

The DJ already had the crowd ‘vibz-ing’ with a mixture of old and new skool rap and RnB while supporting acts Ramz and Hackney’s very own Not3s had the crowd dancing, singing and warming up nicely.

After being hyped by the DJ and teased of Dappy’s impending arrival on stage, fans held their phones aloft, camera lights shining bright, eagerly awaiting… then whoosh,This weren’t no Fire in the booth, we made bars in the shed… accompanied by screaming, cheering, drinks flying, and scented vape smoke in the air, out came Dappy spitting bars from his Daily Duppy pt.1.

For at least one hour plus, Dappy performed some of his old classics to the crowd. Hits including, ‘No Regrets’, ‘Straight facts’ and ‘Beautiful Me’.

He also showed off his vocal skills with a three-song duet with his onstage guitarist.

Electric Atmosphere

From the very first song until the last fans sang every track and every word. Dappy, sensing their appreciation and love would pass the microphone into the crowd with the lucky recipient bellowing out the next lines.

Gowie’s Highlights

This was my first time seeing Dappy live and also the first concert I’d been to since pre lockdown, and it was definitely both fun and entertaining. Dappy’s interaction with his fans, his stage presence and range of vocals showed me he had been looking forward to this performance as he and the crowd feed off each other’s energy.

At one stage he surfed through the crowd and performed two songs while standing on someone’s shoulders. Whose you may ask? I’m not sure, but he was stable and performing with great balance for quite some time.

Other than the surprise ‘Body’ remix with Tion Wayne and Ardee, plus Backroad Gee’s appearance the standout part of the show was when Dappy initially started performing his number one single ‘No Regrets’ amongst the crowd, then disappeared during the chorus only to re-emerge up on the balcony ledge singing to his amazed fans.

A solid performance and an ace set. If Dappy is ever performing in a town near you and tickets are available and you’d like to see a ‘Performance’ with crowd interaction and the possibility of some features from his many collaborations – be sure to purchase a ticket.
