Sunny Edwards produced a dominant display to retain his WBO European Super Flyweight title by unanimous decision against Ryan Farrag at York Hall.

Confident Sunny

Edwards, who now goes to 9-0 with three stoppage victories, was keen to show his confidence early on, impressing at every given opportunity as he strolled to a comfortable points decision, with two judges scoring the fight 100-90 and the other 99-91.

The 22-year-old from London utilised his ability to switch his stance brilliantly to keep Farrag, 30, where he wanted and it was just a matter of time before ’Showtime’ added another win to his record.

Scouting For Opposition

With Sunny’s brother Charlie ruling out a contest between the two of them and Jamie Conlan hinting at retirement, it leaves the talented Brit with very few names to take on at domestic level.

Edwards told iFL TV that he “showed a mature performance and quite dominant”.

“It was a good fight and I am buzzing to have put on a performance like that.”

The Croydon-based fighter stated that a future bout with two-time Olympic bronze medallist Paddy Barnes could be in the works.

When asked about his possible Northern Irish opponent, Sunny said:

“He won’t get in the ring with me, he’s a good fighter, but I genuinely believe Ryan Farrag is a better fighter than him.

“Why’s he gonna face a 22-year-old that’s just performed like that? Frank Warren, get me Paddy Barnes on December 22nd.”

Barnes spoke about Edwards back in January stating that Edwards could be a ‘backwards step”‘.

“He’s a kid. I’m 30 years old, I’m not gonna be here for a long time.”

Convincing

In the co-feature bout of the evening, Michael McKinson retained his WBC International Silver Welterweight title after he saw off Sammy McNess in convincing fashion, winning a unanimous decision with the judges scoring it 99-90, 98-92 and 99-91.

The win puts McKinson in a strong position to challenge Johnny Garton for his British Welterweight title.

Elsewhere on the card, Neslan Machado (15-0) brought himself off the canvas against Fadhili Majiha (23-11-4) to win the vacant WBA International Super Bantamweight title by split decision.

There were also wins for Donovan Mortlock, Jamal Akay, Sultan Zaurbek and Nurtas Azhbenov on their professional debuts.
