University of East London women’s hockey team face a clash against University of Hertfordshire women’s 2nds.

The Blues have had a slow start to the season with a 7-0 loss against University of Arts London women’s 1st, and a cancelled match against Royal Veterinary College 2nd after failing to find an umpire to oversee the match.

Previous Endeavours

The East London based club will be hoping to recreate the glory of the 2017-18 season when they topped the league table, leading to a promotion allowing them to compete in the BUCS South Eastern 4B league this season.

Despite struggling to field a team in past seasons, UEL have enlisted several new players since recruitment began earlier this month, with the new players quickly picking up the basics of field hockey.

The Opposition

Like UEL, University of Hertfordshire currently sit on 0 points on the leader board after losing their first two matches of the  season earlier this month. The club was also relegated last season after finishing 4th in the BUCS South Eastern 4A league. However, the North London based club are not to be overlooked as they hold two titles to their name.

When And Where?

The match will kick-off at 5:00pm at Lee Valley Tennis and Hockey Centre, which also played host to the Women’s Hockey World Cup earlier this summer. Lee Valley also sets the backdrop to the UEL hockey training facilities, with several players descending onto the fluorescent blue pitches every Monday evening to train for upcoming matches. With Lee Valley on the doorsteps of UEL, the Blues hope to be supported by home fans, giving them the psychological edge in the game.

Numerous players from the women’s team also take part in the newly established mixed hockey team, giving them added time and experience on the field which will likely add to their favour for the upcoming match.
