East London RFC have been one of the in-form sides in the London and South East division 3 this season, and continued their strong performances with a dominant 64 – 24 victory over bitter rivals Millwall.

Despite the display head coach Eddie Gooby felt the match officials left a lot to be desired:

“The important thing today was to get five points and the boys played some really outstanding rugby. We were frustrated at times with the officiating unfortunately.

“In this league we have to live with that, but we came out 64 points up,” he continued.

Discipline & Form

Despite the protests from the home side, referee John Williams said:

“I felt the game flowed smoothly, both side’s discipline was good which allowed for free-flowing rugby.

“I felt that neither side was penalised unfairly and whilst the home supporters may have disagreed with a few calls they remained respectful and the players enjoyed the match,” he said.

With the valuable five point win in the back Gooby was looking forward to next week’s clash with top of the table Epping Upper Clapton saying:

“We’ve got a massive game up next against the champions up in Upper Clapton, so the table doesn’t lie they are the best team in the league and we are going to go out and try and test ourselves as best we can against the best team in the league.”
