The UEL Men’s second team look to end the season off on a high as they play the final game of the South Eastern 1A Division against Imperial College London first team at SportsDock on Wednesday, tip-off at 4pm.

UEL sit one division below the Premier South, where the men’s first team won the title, and look set to finish the season off in style with a second-place finish.

Strong Season

UEL are looking to bounce back from their last match on the 27th of February, where they were narrowly beaten by league leaders Hertfordshire away from home 71-61. A victory in against the now league champions could’ve set UEL on course for the title, however, promotion would not be gained as BUCS rules state you cannot have more than one team from the same university in the same division.

UEL’s Men’s Basketball Team huddle during a Time-Out

UEL’s season has been strong with the east Londoners last facing off against Imperial in the opening game of the season, where UEL ran rampant over the away side – ultimately winning by 26 points in a contest that UEL controlled from start to finish.

Ineffective Imperial

It has been a season to forget for the west Londoners and they will seemingly be playing for pride only as they are positioned at the foot of the table with relegation on the cards.

Surrey and Royal Holloway are the only teams they have beaten this season, contributing to their only two wins so far this campiagn. To make matters worse Imperial have a negative points difference of -90.

Court-side View

Despite the opposition, UEL starting center Curtis Hayden has stressed the importance of staying focused and finishing the season well.

“It doesn’t matter if we face the best team or the worst team (in the league), we should play them all equally.

“Even though we can’t win the league, we still don’t want to lose.”

The East London side will finish second in the league table with a win against Imperial, as their points difference (+117) is far superior to the team currently above them, Surrey (-4).
