Jack Giordmaina reports on success for British women at the Velodrome…

There was a great weekend of cycling on offer at the Velodrome last week as Dame Sarah Storey broke two world bests as well as a British one in her hour record attempt.

She was two laps short of the longest distance ever covered by a woman, but she still completed a remarkable 45.502km in an hour: the best in 13 years for a woman.

There was success for another British female rider at the Velodrome, as Laura Trott continued her winning streak in the Elite Women’s events, with flawless performance in the Elimination race and a big winning margin in the Points and Scratch races.

She also showed her dominance in the Derny race, lapping the field three times on her way to another victory.

The Friday event also saw some amazing riding from the Australian duo Glenn O’Shea and Jack Bobridge who dominated their derny heats, averaging an astonishing 65 kilometres-per-hour for the thirty-lap race.

Trott continued her Revolution dominance in the Elite Women’s races, although Spanish rider Leire Olaberria forced a photo finish in the Scratch Race, but it was a late surge to the line made sure she crossed the line in first place.

Overall for the men’s races Bobridge and O’Shea won the weekend overall, after taking Points and Scratch race wins respectively with Trott and Storey winning the weekend overall for the females. Both sets of riders will be looking continue their momentum into the last round in Manchester on the 14th March.
