The 21-year-old American Chloe Kim pulled all the tricks out the bag to secure her winning score of 94. Kim had been favourite to win from early on in the competition especially as she came first in her qualifying run.

The run that won her the gold included five tricks and was her first run of the event. Off her first hit she pulled a huge backside air which she then followed up with an impressive frontside 1020 on her second hit.

It was during her last three hits was when people began to realise that she was taking home the gold. The third hit was a huge cad 900 which linked into a switch backside 540 on the fourth hit and then she finished her run with a magnificent switchback 1020.

On top of winning the gold medal, Chloe used her other two runs to be the first woman ever to do 1260 and while she was successful in executing the trick, she didn’t quite nail the landing but nevertheless an impressive feat in women’s snowboarding.

The silver medal went to Queralt Castellet who was 3.75 point short of Chloe but nevertheless put in a spectacular run to gain her first ever Olympic medal.

Bronze went to Sena Tomita of Japan who scored an 86.00 and an 88.25 on her first and second run, on her 3rd run she try for the gold however made an error and ended up with a score of 9.25.

The bar has been set high for women’s half pipe and with Chloe Kim pulling off the switchback 1020, the world of women’s half pipe snowboarding is going to be reaching new heights.
