UEL Men’s 1st team are set to take on reigning Premier South Champions, Southampton Solent, this Wednesday in the SportDock at 1pm.

This showdown will be a tough contest for both UEL and visiting Solent as winners of the Premier South league last season, the away team have a lot to live up to. They face a UEL side who just marginally finished six points behind Solent last year, while UEL currently sat at top of the table this season.

Evens

Their opposition, Southampton Solent, were in great form last season, winning all 10 matches in an unbeaten run to the title. They have continued that form into this season and there isn’t much between both teams, as they have been equally successful in their opening matches, both sitting on the current maximum of six points.

UEL will be aiming to improve on the outcome of last season after defeat to Solent, the Southerners being one of the two sides to beat them.

Nonetheless, UEL Men’s 1st team’s dedication and focus to this season has shone through with a point difference of 69 leaving them ahead of their opponents on a points difference of 32.

First Real Test

Being League Champions, Southampton should be confident, but their trip to UEL’s SportsDock will be a good test for the away team, as both games they have played this season have been played on home turf. Whereas UEL Men’s 1st played away last Wednesday against Middlesex at the Capital City Academy winning 86-53.

UEL’s Men’s Basketball Team huddle during a Time-Out

It will be interesting to see if Southampton Solent can bring their good home form on their travels for their first away match of the season. UEL have clearly demonstrated this season they can put on stellar performances both home and away.

A win against possibly their toughest competition this season could set up UEL on a great path to stealing the league back this season.
