Charlie Edwards successfully defended his WBC belt on Saturday against Spaniard Angel Moreno in front of a sold-out Copper Box Arena.

In a fight televised on Sky Sports, the 26-year-old fighter who won his world title in his second shot after losing to Casimero in 2016, outclassed Moreno to win the fight 120-107 on all three scorecards.

Post-fight the number three ranked champion according to BoxRec, said to the BBC that it is time ‘to build legacy’.

“I am going to be a multi-weight world champion, mark my words.

“I am obsessed with this game, with bettering myself day in day out. This was a different feel tonight and my boxing IQ has gone up 10 fold. I want to build a legacy.

“He’s a great fighter and tough so I knew he’d be there until the end but it was a punch perfect, clinical boxing performance.”

Mum’s Special Belt

Following the victory WBC’s president Mauricio Suleiman presented a special belt to Edwards’ mother who has been fighting cancer.

Okolie and Buatsi Make Statements

Former Olympians Lawrence Okolie and Joshua Buatsi both managed to impress Saturday night in their respective fights.

Unbeaten cruiserweight Okolie produced a dominant display against experienced Wadi Camacho and stopped him inside four rounds.

For Okolie this would be a 12th consecutive win, and a 9th knockout.

After the fight, the 26-year-old stated to Sky Sports that it is time to move to European and World level.

“For me, staying at British level is pointless, I need to keep pushing and find my level.

As reported by the Daily Express, Lawrence also said that “it is exciting time in the 200lbs division.

“There’ll be eight fighters in the top tier boxing for world titles. The first Super Series seemed to flow very smoothly, I’m not sure if they could pick it up with the same energy.

“It’s really hard to tell – I’d love it. The set-up was world class. It reminded me of amateur tournaments where the best fighters fight the best and it’s the luck of the draw.”

Joshua Buatsi also featured on the card in his first significant step-up against Liam Conroy for the vacant British Light-Heavyweight Title.

The 26-year-old who was born in Ghana and came to the UK as a child managed to stop in the third round.

His promoter Eddie Hearn said after the fight to Sky Sports that “undisputed championship is the aim” for the talented Brit.
